Energy Planning

Energy planning activities have been developed since the ‘80s in strict connection with those focused on analysis and modelling of local systems.
Most of the times, local, national and international institutions have funded these activities.
In some other occasions they were developed in the framework of extra-academic bodies.

Among the studies belonging to the first group, many were commissioned by Municipalities, Provinces and Regions, often associated to development plans of urban infrastructures (plants and networks).

Among the most important ones, the following can be highlighted:

  • ENEA (in association with AEM, Torino Municipality and Piemonte Region) on the urban heat demand for the city of Torino, a study which paved the path towards the existing district heating network in the city;

  • ENEL on the metropolitan areas planning;

  • Piemonte, Lombardia and Aosta Valley regions on the respective regional energy systems (Balances, Models, Plan proposals);

  • Local agencies focused on the urban transport systems (ATM), on the siting of urban wastes incinerators (AMIAT,AEM, TRM), of gasification plants for district heating systems (CVA), of networks for the supply of district or urban heating (Agengranda for Cuneo, Valenza Municipality);

  • Local energy agencies (CVA for Aosta Valley, Chamois).

Among the activities which belong to the second group:

  • OECD (Urban affairs) and

  • IEA- Implementing Agreement on Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems

    • Annex 22 Local energy Planning

    • Annex 33 Advanced Local Energy Planning

  • IEA- Implementing Agreement on Energy Conservation in Buildings and Community Systems
